Animal Totems

Our animal totems are indispensable when venturing hidden realms or planes of existence. Even in life we can have their guidance if we patiently listen. Much of our lives are influenced by them.

Animal totems have a certain presence and mystique that is somewhat intangible. They can be found through meditation and even dreams. Each has its own quality and individual personality. If you do not know which of your animal totems have been working with you (and they always work with you), consider where you go when you visit a zoo for instance. Is it the lion, or the wolf perhaps? Each one has traits that make their species unique. Which are you most fond of? Animal Totems - Wolf

Animal totems work in the spiritual realm, mainly as protectors. They provide guidance that is consistent with their strengths. However, they are not perfect. Still, animal totems see your life from a different, higher, deeper and more meaningful perspective. They are timeless and eternal. The animal totems are not bound by time, and they can provide wisdom of the past, and the future to some extent. The future is always changing based on human decisions, and is not certain.

Native Americans and other peoples have used animal totems to assist when traveling the planes. When out of body, or performing the dangerous act of soul retrieval, the protection offered by animal totems is crucial. One can become lost in the lower planes if care is not taken.

It is a simple exercise to find your animal totems. If you have experience meditating, then visualizing yourself in a relaxing place, and waiting to see which one shows can be rewarding. If you do not have experience meditating, a good technique for relaxing is:

1.    Sit in a comfortable chair, and close your eyes.
2.    Breathe in for a count of 5, hold your breath for 3 seconds, and breathe out over 5 seconds.
3.    Repeat this until your body begins to relax.
4.    You may try counting backwards from 99 to 1 by 2’s. For example, 99. Wait 3 seconds, 97. Waiting between numbers slows down your need to feel rushed.
5.    Before long you should lose count.
6.    You can visualize yourself in a peaceful place such as a beach.
7.    Take note of if any animal totems approach or appear.
8.    They may speak to you, or may remain quiet. Either is fine.

Do not feel discouraged if you fall asleep or if you have trouble visualizing. Sometimes you may hear sounds, or feel a certain feeling. It works differently for everyone, so do what is comfortable for you. When you are ready, you will begin to understand and accept the help offered by your animal totems.
